Five colorful Romantic Comedy Musicals of the 1940's featuring Carmen Miranda



Down Argentine Way (1940): Don Ameche/Betty Grable

Don Ameche is Ricardo Quintana, son of an Argentine horse breeder. Betty Grable is Glenda Crawford, an American heiress vacationing in Argentina. 





That Night in Rio (1941): Alice Faye/Don Ameche

An entertainer in Rio impersonates a wealthy aristocrat. The aristocrat's wife asks him to carry the impersonation further.




Weekend in Havana (1941): Alice Faye/John Payne

Alice Faye is salesgirl Nan Spencer who scrimped to save money from her meagre salary to buy a cruise and wardrobe for cruise, but ship is damaged and cruise is cut short.  In recompense for the failed cruise, Nan is given a tour of Havana, guided by John Payne playing Jay Williams, a shipping company officer.  Jay is engaged to a socialite but finds Nan utterly charming.  "Tropical Magic," "Romance and Rhumba," and "A Weekend in Havana."




Springtime in the Rockies (1942): Betty Grable/John Payne

Betty Grable as Vicky Lane who leaves John Payne, her dancing partner Dan Christy.  Dan misses Vicky and follows her to the Canadian Rockies where she has teamed up with an old dancing partner.



The Gang's All Here (1943): Alice Faye/James Ellison

Ellison as Playboy Andy Mason, on leave from the army, romances Alice Faye as showgirl Eadie Allen.  He gave her an assumed name and then leaves next morning for active duty in the Pacific. Later he returns to meet his family-arranged fiancée.
